Platform Lead Engineer for the development of Intel and AMD based workstations, servers, and blades. Responsible for technical leadership of bringing new platforms to market including interaction with Outside Design & Manufacturing partners, processor, core-logic, and peripheral suppliers; as well as Sun internal Solaris development teams. Strong communication and organizational skills as well as technical excellence, are required to work within a cross-functional, geographically dispersed team.Candidate will own all aspects of NPI engineering including owning the overall program schedule, managing prototype allocations, and coordination with operations and marketing to insure the product is delivered on time, on budget, at the appropriate cost, and with high quality.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Occasional interaction with customers; assessment of potential new design and supply partners; understanding of product regulatory requirements (safety, EMC, environmental, etc); performance and applications testing. DICE ***

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of PC hardware, software, BIOS, Solaris, Linux, Windows, Intel Xeon, AMD Opteron, HyperTransport, ODM, JDM, offshore design and manufacturing, Product Life Cycle (PLC), specifications, Bills of Material (BOM)

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:

Hands-on knowledge of PC hardware, BIOS, and Operating Systems, as well as a proven track record developing and taking to market high-volume computer systems. Must be capable of generating technical specifications, product plans,and test reports. Experience working with Asian motherboard and/or systemsmanufacturers highly desirable. This job requires strong knowledge of all elements of a x86 system, including hardware, software, firmware, chassis and cooling, power supply and distribution, I/O, storage, graphics, diagnostics and test. In addition, in-depth expertise in hardware and several other areas is essential.
